D Day 80th Saxtead

We had some moments of reflection at All Saints on 6th June to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice to not only ensure our freedom but to also liberate Europe from oppression by bringing to an end the Second World War.

Evelyn introduced those present to the solemn moment and placed a wreath of poppies, from the Parish Council, at the foot of the memorial. We stood in silence for 2 minutes and the only sounds were the breeze in the surrounding trees and the plaintive song of birds as if orchestrated for the occasion.
Nathan led the traditional refrain of "We will remember them". Evelyn closed the remembrance with the prayer for peace and thanks to God for our nation's deliverance.
