by Saxtead Parish Council
Saxtead Parish Council and parishioners are concerned about speeding in the village. The Parish Council have discussed various traffic calming methods.
There are concerns that it is not obvious that you are driving into a village on some of the approaches and Councillors think that 'Welcome to Saxtead- Please drive carefully' entrance signs with white fence surrounds might help improve this, and encourage drivers to reduce their speed.
We think that these signs must be purchased and installed via the Highways Department, who have quoted £13,000 + VAT for 4 such signs at each entrance to the village. Please see below for an idea of what the signs would look like
Please note the 30mph signs are not included in this price. This is a far higher sum that the Council had expected, and as a small Parish Council, this sum is simply not affordable.
We now wish to consult our village regarding the proposed signs. Do you think they would help? Are you in favour of the idea? And do you have any ideas how the Parish Council could raise funds for the signs. Do you know of a business or individual who would like to sponsor all or part of one of the signs?
Proposed sites for the entrance signs:-
Boundary Farm
Adjacent to the former toilet faciliies
Saxtead Bottom
near Foxearth Lodge, Tannington Road
