The District Council Elections for the new East Suffolk Council will take place on Thursday 2nd May. Saxtead falls within the Framlingham Ward. A Statement of Persons Nominated for the ward is attached here.
The European Parliamentary Elections are being held on Thursday 23 May and unless the United Kingdom leaves the European Union prior to that date, voting to elect MEPs will take place in this country.
Therefore, while an agreement to leave the EU could yet be reached, councils must prepare for the election as normal.
Poll cards will be sent out to households in East Suffolk from today (Thursday 25 April). This will also include cards for those who have chosen to vote by post – and these will be clearly marked. The Notice of Election is attached here.
This is not to be confused with the East Suffolk Council elections - which take place on Thursday 2 May - for which poll cards have already been despatched.
The dates regarding nominations for Parish Council Elections have now passed and there are fewer applicants than vacancies and, as such, Saxtead will have an uncontested election. The Notice of this is attached here.
There is a shortfall of Councillors and anyone who would like to be co-opted onto Saxtead Parish Council should contact the clerk, Lydia Kirk. The Parish Council has until 24th June in which it can co-opt on to the Council without the same requirements for mid-term ‘casual vacancies’.
